PlusOne Chicago: From Warehouse to Data Center

I was recently afforded the opportunity to travel to the Windy City with a colleague to view the progress being made at our managed facility at PlusOne Chicago.  To receive a behind-the-scenes insight, from the start of the renovations until now, has been great!

The last time I ventured into the heart of downtown Chicago to look upon the bunker-esque, brick-and-mortar edifice of PlusOne Chicago was back in September after Pi Data Holdings purchased the building and chose Facility Gateway to manage all facility operations. (for more information about the acquisition of the building, please click here).

But as the seasons changed from Fall to Winter, and from Winter to Spring, so did PlusOne Chicago.  Below are a few pictures that my colleague took before the metamorphosis from warehouse to data center, took place:

The phase one infrastructure will be able to support approximately 6,000-square feet of server space.

Upon Phase One completion, the entirety of the 25,000-square foot server room will be installed with raised-floor.

Descending into the basement...

The gigantic boiler. This thing was huge!

Ah!The horror! The horror! Really though, I'm not sure why this was there. And yes, I find the chair to be more than creepy.

On to the new pictures!  The renovations are not complete, but the progress that has been made within the last six months has been astounding! Without further ado, here are the latest pictures of the renovations at PlusOne Chicago:

This picture was taken a month or two before the other server room pictures, but I like the picture, so I decided to add it to the 'tour'.

The basement will house an assortment of critical power equipment such as UPSs and Batteries.

Much has changed within PlusOne Chicago, and much more will continue to change as Facility Gateway begins to near the final stages of the Phase One build-out.  To view the latest up-to-date progress via a live video feed of the PlusOne Chicago build-out, click here.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures, and more updates to follow!
